Kindergarten at St. Patrick School provides a joyful, faith-filled foundation where children develop academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. Through hands-on learning, purposeful play, and meaningful experiences, students build confidence as emerging readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and disciples of Christ. Our curriculum aligns with the New York State Learning Standards while nurturing curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning.
Using the Word of Life religion program, students discover God's love through Scripture, prayer, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. They learn about Bible stories, the lives of the saints, virtues, kindness, and participate in school liturgies, prayer services, and daily faith formation.
Students develop early literacy through systematic phonics instruction, phonological awareness, letter recognition, handwriting, vocabulary development, speaking and listening skills, and rich literature experiences. They learn to identify story elements, retell texts, recognize informational and literary texts, build comprehension, and express their ideas through drawing, dictation, and beginning writing. Daily read-alouds and guided reading foster a love of books while preparing students to become confident readers and communicators.
Kindergarten mathematicians build strong number sense by counting to 100, writing numerals, comparing quantities, recognizing patterns, exploring place value, classifying objects, and identifying two- and three-dimensional shapes. Students use manipulatives, games, centers, and hands-on investigations to develop mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills while making real-world connections.
Students investigate the world around them through observation, questioning, experimentation, and collaborative exploration. Age-appropriate STEM activities encourage critical thinking, creativity, and inquiry while introducing foundational concepts in life science, physical science, engineering, and the natural world. Students learn to ask questions, make predictions, gather information, and share their discoveries.
Kindergarten students develop an understanding of themselves, their families, school community, neighborhoods, and the wider world. Through discussions, literature, community studies, and seasonal activities, students learn about citizenship, community helpers, traditions, maps, and respecting similarities and differences among people.

Kindergarten emphasizes the development of communication, collaboration, self-regulation, and empathy. Through classroom meetings, cooperative learning, role-playing, literature discussions, and daily routines, students learn to recognize emotions, solve problems respectfully, and build positive relationships with peers and teachers.
