Values for a Lifetime
Fourth Grade is a year of academic growth, increasing independence, and deeper critical thinking. Students strengthen foundational skills while learning to analyze information, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively. Rooted in our Catholic faith and aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, the curriculum prepares students to become confident, compassionate, and responsible learners.
Using the Word of Life religion program, students deepen their understanding of Scripture, Church teachings, the Sacraments, and Christian discipleship. Daily prayer, participation in school liturgies, and service opportunities encourage students to grow in faith while living out Gospel values through kindness, responsibility, and service to others.
Fourth Grade students become stronger readers, writers, and communicators by analyzing increasingly complex literary and informational texts. Instruction emphasizes using text evidence to support ideas, making inferences, identifying themes, expanding vocabulary, interpreting figurative language, and summarizing texts. Students write narratives, informational pieces, opinion writing, poetry, and responses to literature while refining grammar, sentence structure, and the writing process.
Students develop strong mathematical reasoning as they master multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and multi-step problem solving. Instruction includes place value, rounding, multiplication strategies, fractions, geometry, measurement, angle measurement, and unit conversions. Students learn to explain their thinking, apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations, and build confidence in solving increasingly challenging problems.
Through hands-on investigations and STEM-based learning experiences, students explore scientific concepts while strengthening inquiry, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Lessons encourage students to ask questions, investigate evidence, design solutions, and apply scientific thinking to real-world challenges.
Fourth Grade students examine New York State history, geography, economics, and government while developing an understanding of how communities and regions have changed over time. Students analyze primary and secondary sources, interpret maps, and explore the connections between geography, culture, and historical events.

Fourth Grade students continue to strengthen leadership, resilience, organization, and personal responsibility.
