Using the Word of Life religion program, students deepen their understanding of Scripture, Catholic doctrine, Church history, and the Sacraments. Through daily prayer, participation in Mass, faith discussions, and service opportunities, students continue to grow as disciples of Christ while developing a stronger sense of moral responsibility and leadership.
Students strengthen their ability to read, analyze, and respond to increasingly complex literary and informational texts. Instruction emphasizes close reading, vocabulary development, evidence-based writing, grammar, research skills, and oral communication. Students compose narrative, informational, and argumentative writing while learning to organize ideas, support claims with textual evidence, and communicate effectively across subject areas.
Fifth Grade mathematics builds conceptual understanding and procedural fluency through topics including operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, volume, and data analysis. Students develop mathematical reasoning by solving multi-step problems, explaining their thinking, and applying concepts to authentic, real-world situations.
Students engage in an inquiry-based science curriculum that emphasizes scientific investigation, engineering design, and hands-on laboratory experiences. Throughout the year, students explore the scientific method, engineering design, properties and changes of matter, Earth's systems, weather and natural resources, the solar system, gravity, ecosystems, food chains and food webs, photosynthesis, energy flow, and environmental stewardship. Students regularly conduct experiments, analyze data, build models, and apply scientific thinking to solve meaningful problems.
Students examine the history of the United States from early exploration through the formation of the nation, studying geography, government, economics, and the development of American democracy. Primary and secondary sources encourage students to analyze historical events, understand multiple perspectives, and recognize how the past shapes the present.
As the first year of Middle School, Fifth Grade provides students with increased independence and responsibility. Students transition between classrooms for different subjects, utilize personal lockers, organize materials across multiple classes, and develop executive functioning skills such as time management, accountability, and self-advocacy. Faculty work closely with students to ensure a smooth and supportive transition into the middle school environment.

Fifth Grade students continue developing leadership, resilience, responsibility, and effective communication skills. Through advisory experiences, collaborative learning, and faith formation, students strengthen their confidence, independence, and ability to navigate the increased expectations of middle school.
Our Fifth Grade program provides a supportive and engaging middle school environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves academically while growing spiritually and socially. With the guidance of dedicated teachers and strong partnerships with families, students develop the knowledge, organizational skills, and Catholic values needed for success throughout middle school and beyond.
